THE STORY BEHIND THE PROJECT
A Piece of Saline County History!
Built in 1853 by John W. Shoppach, the Shoppach House has been part of Saline County's story for more than 170 years. Its original bricks were fired right here on the property, and much of that original brickwork remains today. But time has taken its toll. Years of inappropriate mortar repairs, combined with natural aging, have caused portions of the historic brickwork to deteriorate. Some areas are crumbling, bulging, and falling from the walls, while deterioration has also begun inside the house.
Project Brick by Brick was created to help change that.
This campaign brings our community together to help restore the house, protect its history, and keep its doors open for generations to come.
WHY DOES THE SHOPPACH HOUSE MATTER?
The Shoppach House isn't simply an old building. It is a physical connection to the people, stories, and history that helped shape Benton and Saline County. For more than 170 years, this house has remained standing through generations of change. Preserving it means giving future generations the opportunity to walk through these same doors, see these original materials, and experience a tangible piece of the history that came before them. This isn't just The Shoppach House's history. It's our community's history.
